What are the Auburn Police Department’s goals for 2025? In its 2024 annual report, the department outlined what it hopes to accomplish this year.
The department has set out five goals for 2025. The first is to have all sworn personnel receive “Principled Policing” training. According to the APD, this training focuses on “demonstrating how interactions with the public can influence their perspective, cooperation, and compliance with [the] department.”
Another goal is to prioritize evidence-based policing. To achieve this goal, the department is working to hire a data analyst to support the endeavor.
Thirdly, the department is seeking to secure funding through a Statewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate Partner Violence Initiative (STRIVE) Grant. Partnering with the Cayuga County District Attorney Office and Community Action Program, the grant would help police reduce intimate partner and domestic-related violence and support victim safety.
Estimated to cost $640,000, the department also plans to look into grants and other funding to replace its obsolete radios.
APD’s final stated goal for 2025 is to complete its license plate reader project. The department plans to purchase license plate reader cameras and place them at certain points throughout the city. The department states the cameras will not be used for writing traffic tickets but to assist with other investigations such as stolen vehicle and missing persons cases.
