The City of Auburn has paid tribute to the 39th president of the United States of America.
The American flag was draped over the entrance of City Hall on Thursday as an act of reverence to the former president and humanitarian who passed away on December 29 at the age of 100.
Additionally, the city’s Old Wheeler Bell tolled at 5:00p at the beginning of the regularly scheduled City Council meeting.
President Carter was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia. He served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1953. In 1976, he was elected the 39th president of the United States.
Following his term as president, Carter would work on a variety of humanitarian causes, including his active involvement in Habitat for Humanity.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 “for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.”
