An Auburn man who pleaded guilty to felony attempted murder back in February was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison and five years of post-release supervision in Cayuga County Court.
On February 2, 2024, deputies responded to Rockingham Road in Sennett after the man, identified as John Netti, attacked a woman walking her dog, attempting to strangle her. A neighbor intervened and called 911, prompting the 24-year-old Netti to flee into a nearby golf course, where he was later arrested. Authorities said the victim and Netti had no prior connection.
Netti was previously deemed mentally unfit to stand trial and was treated in a secure facility.
