History’s Hometown will hold its annual Harriet Tubman celebration next week.
Auburn is inviting residents to the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park at 47 Parker Street on Monday at noon for the Harriet Tubman Day Proclamation Ceremony to honor the life and legacy of the famed abolitionist and suffragist.
The park, located at Tubman’s former church, the Thompson Memorial AME Zion Church, will also hold an open house from 10:00a-4:00p to commemorate the day.
First recognized as a national holiday in 1990, the event is held on the anniversary of Tubman’s death on March 10, 1913, in Auburn. She is buried near her former church in Fort Hill Cemetery.
