Auburn Community Hospital has earned a “B” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, marking its highest rating since spring 2022. The fall 2025 grade reflects significant improvements after a year of “C” ratings and previous “D” scores.
The rating comes after the hospital recently made headlines for the mass departure of a majority of its anesthesiology department. In response to that news, the hospital maintained all procedures would continue as scheduled with no impact on patient care.
In the Leapfrog Group’s evaluation, Auburn received high marks for leadership, staff collaboration, nursing care, ICU physician expertise, and handwashing, though some areas, such as accidental cuts, kidney injuries after surgery, and communication with doctors, scored below average.
“Earning a ‘B’ hospital safety grade is a testament to the commitment of everyone at Auburn Community Hospital,” said Missy Danforth, senior vice president of health care ratings at The Leapfrog Group.
Scott Berlucchi, president and CEO, called it a “meaningful achievement,” praising staff for putting patient safety at the forefront of their work.
Auburn Community Hospital is a 99-bed Sole Community and Essential Safety Net Hospital. More information about the grading is available at HospitalSafetyGrade.org.
