Auburn Couple Indicted on Animal Cruelty Charges

SHARE NOW

An Auburn couple has been indicted by a Cayuga County Grand Jury on multiple animal cruelty charges.

Prosecutors say between November 2023 and March 2025, 50-year-old Laura Hendrickson and 45-year-old Kenneth Sulgar deprived their dog of food, leaving her severely underweight, and confined her to a crate, causing permanent damage to her paws. They are also accused of abandoning two dogs.

The pair face a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals and two misdemeanor counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals. If convicted, they could face up to two years in jail.

District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci said her office is prioritizing the prosecution of animal abuse cases.

“The Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office has made it a priority to expedite the prosecution of animal abuse offenders in our County. Our Office, along with our law enforcement partners, will continue our unwavering commitment to holding these individuals accountable for their actions and seeking swift prosecution of these offenders.”

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
