Auburn City Ambulance (ACA) is expanding its service to the Town of Owasco.
City Council voted on Thursday to enter into an agreement with the town to provide it with ambulatory services. In return, the ambulance service will be compensated $250,000 from the town.
The city has already been providing support to Owasco through mutual aid.
When asked by Mayor Jimmy Giannettino before the vote, City Manager Jeff Dygert stated that the agreement would not affect the ability of ACA to provide reliable service to the people of Auburn.
As part of the agreement, a staffed ambulance will be housed at the Owasco Fire Department from 7:00a-7:00p every day. Any costs related to housing the ambulance at the department will be the responsibility of either the town or the fire district.
In fall 2023, American Medical Response announced it would cease providing its Advanced Life Support ambulance services to Cayuga County on December 31 of that year. This announcement led to uncertainty about how towns would meet the needs of their communities.
The City of Auburn has been running its ambulance service since 2021.
