The Auburn Police Department has renewed its Mutual Aid Agreement with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
City Council voted on Thursday to authorize the resolution which allows the two agencies to work together and assist each other when needed. While the agreement doesn’t obligate the agencies to provide or receive aid, it does provide a mechanism to do so should the need arise.
Speaking on FLX Morning with Ted Baker, City Clerk Chuck Mason said the agreement underscores the level of cooperation between the police department and sheriff’s office.
“Chief Jim Slayton and Sheriff Brian Schenck work really well together and the departments work well together, and there are some times where there’s a lot of crossovers such as the last year where we’ve received the New York State GIVE Grant.”
The county legislature is expected to authorize the agreement on the county end, possibly at its next legislature meeting.
