Community Broadband is coming to Auburn.
City Council voted on Thursday to lease space on the former radio tower it owns at 85 Osborne Street to CBN America so it can provide wireless broadband to Auburn residents. Cell phone companies and 911 currently use space on the tower for their equipment.
Speaking on FLX Morning, City Clerk Chuck Mason said this decision will help get service to those who may normally not be able to afford internet.
“The great thing about this is they have a program that will be reaching out to and offering to income-eligible members of the Auburn Community low cost or even in some instances perhaps free wireless internet service,” said Mason.
CBN expects to be up and running in Auburn in approximately two months.
