Auburn City Council has approved changes to its housing code.
After two public hearings on the matter, the council voted for changes that strengthen the Nuisance Abatement Committee’s power to enforce its rules as well as allow individuals to take their grievances to the committee.
“Local law number 1 of 2023, which has been on the council agenda for about three months, comes to a conclusion, City Clerk Chuck Mason said on FLX Morning. “That’ll be filed with the secretary of state of New York, and as soon as we get the notification that it’s officially filed, it becomes the law.”
The changes now allow the committee to hear from individuals who feel they’ve been aggrieved by the housing code inspection process while also giving the committee more strength to enforce the city’s standards.
