One of Auburn’s community gardens will double in size.
On Thursday, City Council voted to allow the Westside Community Garden at Miles/Lepak Park to expand from ten planting beds to 20.
Anna Ritter is in charge of the garden. She told Finger Lakes News Radio that it was received incredibly well during its first year and believes the expansion will encourage further participation.
“It was great to see how it was received by the people who were involved and it kind of came together organically and people really showed an interest. So, I think expanding will encourage more people to get involved.”
Ritter had previously shared the importance of community gardens, stating that they allow those who lack gardening space, such as those who rent, to have access to fresh produce.
“[Community gardens] are the difference between someone having access to fresh vegetables and not having access,” continued Ritter.
Those wishing to become involved with the garden can contact Ritter and [email protected].
