Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci says an appellate court has upheld the conviction of a Virginia man for a 2022 bank robbery in Auburn.
The Appellate Division, Fourth Department, affirmed both the conviction and sentence of 45-year-old Johann Bass of Falls Church, Virginia. Bass pleaded guilty in January 2023 to third-degree robbery, a Class D felony, in connection with the robbery of a bank on Genesee Street in January 2022. Bass entered the KeyBank and gave a teller a note that read, “Stay calm, I have a gun, give me your money.” Bass made off with $700 in cash and was arrested a short time later in Aurora.
He was sentenced to the maximum indeterminate term of 2⅓ to 7 years in prison.
