Five new Harmful Algal Blooms were reported Monday on Owasco Lake.
That’s according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s HAB System, which maps out bloom reports across the state.
All active HABs appear to be at the southern half of the lake with all but two on its eastern side.
While not all HABs produce toxins, exposure of people and animals to blooms can cause harmful health effects to humans, such as vomitting, breathing difficulties, and irritation of the skin, throat, or eyes.
