State Police have released more information about the arrest of an Ontario man following an investigation into the online exploitation of a minor.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Lyons arrested 20-year-old Brayden Bergfjord after an investigation that began in September 2025. The case started when the Newark Police Department received information about inappropriate online messages between an adult male and a 12-year-old girl from Ottawa, Canada.

Investigators say Bergfjord allegedly met the victim through the online gaming platform Roblox. During their conversations, he is accused of sending sexually explicit photos and videos of himself and attempting to persuade the child to send explicit images.

Bergfjord was taken into custody on January 27 and charged with Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor in the First Degree, Criminal Solicitation in the Third Degree, and Acting in a Manner Injurious to a Child Less Than 17.

After investigators searched his cell phone, they say they found additional child sexual abuse material. As a result, Bergfjord was charged on January 29 with Possession of an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child Less Than 16.

He was processed and issued an appearance ticket. Bergfjord is scheduled to appear in Village of Newark Court on March 18.

State Police were assisted in the investigation by the Ottawa Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and the Newark Police Department.

Authorities note that a criminal charge is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
