A local man has been identified as the victim who died following a tractor-trailer crash last week on the New York State Thruway in Oneida County.
Troopers say Robert Wells, 76, of Palmyra, was operating a DNT Express tractor trailer when the crash occurred. Wells suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened on March 5, at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Interstate 90 westbound near mile marker 243.7 in the Town of Westmoreland.
According to a preliminary investigation, a tractor trailer operated by Ahmad Riyad Alomori, 42, of New Jersey, was traveling westbound in the right lane while hauling an empty car carrier for A1 Truck Lines. A second tractor trailer, driven by Wells for DNT Express, then struck the rear of the car hauler.
Both vehicles were pushed to the right shoulder following the collision.
Alomori suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital for evaluation.
State Police say the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
