The man poised to become Cayuga County’s next sheriff has received the support of the union representing corrections officers.
The local New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association chapter at the Auburn Correctional Facility has announced its endorsement of Rob Franklin for sheriff. The union said Franklin “has understood the challenges corrections officers in his community have endured not just in the facility but also at home.”
Franklin was grateful for the endorsement, writing on Facebook, “The men and women who serve in our state correctional system play a vital role in both our justice system and the safety of our communities. I am grateful for their support, and for the important work they do each day.”
Franklin is the only person currently running to succeed current sheriff Brian Schenck, who announced in November that he would not seek a third term as sheriff.
Franklin, a detective lieutenant with the sheriff’s office, faced a Republican primary challenge from former Auburn police officer Chris Major; however, Major dropped out in February and endorsed Franklin.
