State Police have arrested two men in connection with an assault on correction officers at Auburn Correctional Facility last summer.
State police say 34-year-old Errol Fowler-Graham and 33-year-old Shaquan Brown were indicted following an investigation into an incident that happened on August 21, 2024, during inmate movement inside the facility. Authorities say multiple correction officers were assaulted and suffered injuries. The officers were taken to Auburn Community Hospital for treatment, and at least one officer remained out of work because of those injuries.
The investigation was conducted by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, working alongside the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office. The case was later presented to a grand jury, which returned indictments against both men.
On January 13, Fowler-Graham and Brown were arraigned in Cayuga County Court. Each is charged with three counts of second-degree assault for injuring a person while confined in a correctional facility, and three counts of second-degree assault for intentionally causing injury to a correction officer. All charges are Class D felonies.
State police say both defendants were processed without incident and returned to the custody of the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
