An Auburn man has been charged with sexual abuse following allegations that he subjected a victim to inappropriate contact at a business in Cortland County.
According to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, 34-year-old Joel Shattuck was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree sexual abuse and forcible touching, both misdemeanors. The investigation began after a report was filed on November 15. Deputies say their findings indicate Shattuck allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with a victim at a business in the town of Virgil.
Shattuck was taken into custody, processed through centralized arraignment, and remanded to the Cortland County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in Virgil Town Court today.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
