One local animal shelter is heading back home.
The Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York has announced it is moving back to its York Street location in Auburn this week.
Back in May, the shelter moved to a temporary location at the Fingerlakes Mall while renovations were made to the York Street site. Upgrades include new dog areas and kennels, a modern vet clinic, a surgery suite, and two HVAC systems.
The upgrades are necessary to put the shelter in compliance with the 2022 Animal Care Companion Standards Act, which sets standards for shelters and rescues across the state. Without the upgrades, the SPCA would not be able to operate.
Due to the move, the SPCA will be closed until Monday.
