Cayuga County Legislature Candidate Announces Slew of Local Endorsements

With under a month until early voting starts, one person hoping to keep her seat on the Cayuga County Legislature has announced a series of endorsements.

Amy Sargent, a Democrat representing District 10, has announced that she has been endorsed by Auburn City Councilors Christina Calarco, Terry Cuddy, Ginny Kent, and Rhoda Overstreet-Wilson, and County Legislators Elane Daly (9), Aileen McNabb-Coleman (5), Brian Muldrow (11), and Heidi Nightengale (8). Former Cayuga County Democratic Elections Commissioner Katie Lacey and Bryan Bush of Nick’s Ride For Friends have also thrown their support behind Sargent.

Additionally, she’s received the endorsements of the Working Family Party, CSEA, 1199 SEIU, National Democratic County Officials, and the Upstate Progressive Pact.

“I am incredibly grateful and honored to have these endorsements. They are critical groups and individuals in our community, and I value their support,” said Sargent.

District 10 comprises the Southeast quadrant of the City of Auburn.

Sargent was not elected to the position she’s hoping to keep; instead, she was appointed to the legislature in June to fill the vacancy following Former Legislator Stephanie DeVito’s April resignation because her new job required her to move outside the district.

Sargent is facing opposition from Michael Pettigrass, who is running on the Republican and Conservative lines. Pettigrass sought the position in 2023, narrowly losing to DeVito.

Early voting begins October 25. Election Day is November 4.
