An Ithaca man will spend 25 years to life in state prison for the murder of his wife.
In June, Ahmed Abed admitted to intentionally killing his wife, 43-year-old Alaa Hussein Jeena Abedi, on November 11, 2024, at their home in Ithaca while their four children were present. Prosecutors sought the maximum sentence, citing the brutal nature of the crime. Abed was sentenced Tuesday in Tompkins County Court to 25 years to life
During the sentencing hearing, three of the couple’s children spoke, urging the court to impose the maximum sentence. District Attorney Matthew Van Houten called the murder “brutal and heinous,” stating the crime caused “immeasurable pain that no court proceeding can ever come close to addressing.”
The case was prosecuted by the Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office, with Abed represented by Ithaca attorneys Michael Perehinec and Zela Brotherton.
The District Attorney also acknowledged the Ithaca Police Department and the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit for their investigative work in bringing the case to a resolution.
