A serious weekend crash in Cayuga County is under investigation.
According to State Police, the crash occurred at around 12:37p on Saturday at the intersection of Bluefield and Skillet Roads in the Town of Fleming.
Troopers say a preliminary investigation has revealed that a Chevy Traverse was travelling westbound on Skillet Rd when it failed to stop at a sign and collided with a Ford F-150 at the intersection. Five individuals were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse; two were air-lifted due to the severity of their injuries.
- 18-year-old Garrand Plants of Mexico, NY, the operator of the Ford, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical but stable condition.
- A five-year-old passenger in the Chevy was ejected from the vehicle. Police say they are in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
- 37-year-old Roberto Vasquez Velasquez of West Winfield, the operator of the Chevy, sustained non-life-threatening injuries
- 32-year-old Yuli Vasquez of West Winfield was transported for evaluation.
- A 17-year-old in the F-150 sustained a head injury.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by multiple fire departments, including Fleming, Owasco, and Aurelius. MercyFlight and Auburn City Ambulance also assisted.
Police say no signs of alcohol or drug impairment were found. The investigation is ongoing.
