Walmart is challenging the property assessment of its Auburn store, seeking to lower its valuation by more than $6 million.
The current assessed value of the store at 297 Grant Avenue is $13.5 million, reduced from $14.5 million after negotiations during the city’s 2022 revaluation. However, Walmart is now asking the state Supreme Court to slash that figure by 44%, down to $7.5 million.
In its legal filing, the retail giant argues the assessment is excessive, unlawful, and unequal compared to other properties in the city.
The Auburn Citizen reports the case is set to be heard by Judge James Vazzana on November 18 in Rochester.
Walmart is one of several companies challenging their assessments in Auburn, including McDonald’s, Nucor, Northbrook Heights, and Standart Woods.
