Seneca County Hires Former State Correction Officers After Mass Firings

SHARE NOW

Six former state correction officers have joined the staff at the Seneca County Correctional Facility, following their termination from New York’s prison system after participating in an unsanctioned strike earlier this year.

The officers, five full-time and one part-time, were among roughly 2,000 correction officers fired by the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision for failing to return to work after a 22-day wildcat strike.

Seneca County welcomed the new hires during a swearing-in ceremony held last month. In addition to the six former state COs, three officers from nearby sheriff’s departments have also joined the county’s correction staff.
