Hydrilla treatment is underway on Cayuga Lake.
The Cayuga County Health Department has announced that the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Army Corps of Engineers began applying aquatic herbicides (fluridone) in the Wells College Bay area on Tuesday. A total of ten fluridone treatments are planned to occur between June and August, with one potential chelated copper treatment planned for August.
The health department adds that there are no restrictions on drinking, fishing, swimming, boating, or domestic use of treated water; however, the water should not be used for sensitive greenhouse and nursery plants.
Hydrilla is an invasive species of aquatic plant native to Asia, Africa, and Australia.
