SHARE NOW

Auburn City Council will vote Thursday on an application for grant funding for improvements to the Lake Ave Bridge.

Erected in 1954, the bridge needs rehabilitation work to keep it safe for users. According to the city the Lake Ave Bridge serves nearly 10,000 vehicular and pedestrian users daily.

Estimated to cost $8.3 million, the city has already received $3,836,800 from the New York State Department of Transportation’s Bridge NY grant program. This means the city needs to make up an approximately $4,500,000 funding gap.

To help close the gap, the city plans on applying for $1,000,000 in funding through the Northern Border Regional Commission’s Catalyst Program to support public transportation infrastructure projects. As the grant requires a match of 20% non-federal funds, council will also vote to authorize the city comptoller to provide the requisite $250,000 in matching funds.

Under the rehabilitation timeline, construction bids would go out in Fall 2025 with consturction beginning in Spring 2026.
