Wayne County Village Cancels Canaltown Days

SHARE NOW

A long-time Wayne County late-summer tradition has been canceled for this year. Following a meeting by its Board of Directors this week, the decision was made to cancel this year’s Canaltown Days in Palmyra and dissolve the Canaltown Days corporation entirely.

“Citing just a few of the reasons, things such as inadequate vendor response, ever-increasing costs, difficulty recruiting new volunteers, inadequate sponsorships, ever-changing rules and regulations, and a shortage of available parade units to name just a few,” wrote the committee on its website. “Additionally, due to the many changes that the festival has had to endure over the years, it is no longer the historical festival that it was originally established to be. Over the years it has lost various activities that were significant parts of our festival and today is not the festival that it once was.”

Organizers cited inadequate vendor response, increasing costs, inadequate sponsorships, and a shortage of parade units as just a few reasons this year’s festival is canceled for the third weekend in September.
