Budget presentations continue in Auburn.

City Council will hear the Department of Public Works’ proposed budget at Thursday’s city council meeting. That meeting will take place at 5:00p in council chambers.

The council has already heard budget plans from the police department, fire department, and ambulance service along with planning and codes. The police department is seeking $9.1 million, allowing it to purchase seven new vehicles. The fire department is asking for $8.2 million; AFD has no plans to purchase any new vehicles in the upcoming budget. The ambulance service is asking for $3.3 million.

A first draft of the overall city budget was presented last week by City Manager Jeff Dygert and Comptroller Mary Beth Leeson; however, changes will most likely be made once Auburn learns how the state budget will affect local finances. The proposed budget is a 6.1% increase over last year’s, coming in at $47.5 million.

The state has extended the deadline to pass its budget to Thursday.
