Auburn Seeking Essential Service Designation for Ambulance Service

Will ambulances be considered an essential service in New York State?

Auburn City Clerk Chuck Mason says that’s what was discussed with State Senator Rachel May when she was in town last Tuesday:

“We talked to her about the fact that the state of New York really needs to identify ambulance service as an essential service in New York State, similar to how they identify police and fire,” Mason said on FLX Morning with Ted Baker. “Believe it or not ambulance, paramedics, and EMTs aren’t considered in the same light through the state as some of our other public safety officials.”

The city began running its own ambulance service in November 2021 and it currently has over 25 employees and five ambulances in service.
