After 15 months of heavy fighting, Ukraine continues to hold off against a Russian assault on its territory and people.
One Auburn Church has announced a fundraiser to support the war torn country. Auburn United Methodist Church, located at 99 South Street, will hold a garage sale, can drive, and chicken barbeque this Saturday from 9:00a-2:00p.
Pastor Donna Martin says, since the war began, many in her congregation have been looking to find ways to help those whose lives have been affected by the violence. She added that, for her and her congregation, its what their faith calls on them to do.
“Mission is a very important part of any church body,” said Martin. “It helps us to remember that we are not alone. It also helps us to understand the needs [of others] both locally and afar”
All proceeds raised will be given to Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church to then be sent to help orphans and refugees in Ukraine.
If you’d like to support the effort but can’t attend the event, cans can be donated to Bag o’ Nickels either in person or by requesting pickup at 315-975-5555. You need to let the business know you’d like the money to go to the Ukrainian relief fund.
