Cayuga County Library Begins Fundraising for New Building

SHARE NOW

One Cayuga County library is planning to move and has kicked off its fundraising campaign to help with the associated costs.

Hazard Library plans to build a new facility adjacent to Opendore, the historic site and former home of Isabel Howland, who was active in the women’s suffrage movement, and is now part of the Howland Stone Store Museum.

Librarian Lisa Semenza believes the move will benefit both Opendore and the library as well as the community, saying “we can really work with [Opendore] getting books and information with local history. They can help us with helping people find information that they need.”

The library currently operates a 550sq ft building in Poplar Ridge. Moving next to Opendore would not only place the library in Sherwood but also nearly quadruple its size as the new facility is expected to have two stories and measure just over 2,000sq ft.

The library has set an initial fundraising goal of 50-thousand dollars to help match state grants they’re applying for. To facilitate donations, the library has set up a PayPal account which can be found here.
