In this episode:
- Life jackets must be worn beginning November 1 on all boats less than 21 feet long. It’s a good idea to wear them all the time.
- Watch for lower water levels when using your boat in the fall and when getting your boat on and off the trailer.
- As air and water temperatures drop, the risk of hypothermia increases, do dress appropriately.
- If you have an emergency in the fall, there are fewer boats on the water. You can call 9-1-1 on most water bodies. On Lake Ontario, you should have a VHF radio to talk to the Coast Guard.
- Beginning in 2025, all operators must have a NASBLA approved Safe Boating Certificate. America’s Boating Club and other organizations offer courses. Find out more:
