  • Sarah VanDoren with Cayuga Counseling Services in Auburn discussed the incarcerated individual reentry program. The department is partnering with Sarah and her staff thanks to a $750,000 grant from the Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for a three year period. This program includes case management, vocational training, mental health therapy, and continued services once the individual is released.
  • It is National Correctional Officers Week. This week we recognize the men and women that secure our jail and prisons. (May 7 – 13). Also it is Nurses Week (6-12) and Teacher appreciation week (8-12). There are nurses and teachers in the jail facility.
  • The Sheriff visited with his kindergarten teacher.
  • May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Dial 988 for help and resources – 911 in an emergency.
  • Sheriff’s Marine Patrol boats will soon be going in the water in preparation for the summer boating season. Boats patrol Lake Ontario, Owasco Lake and Cayuga Lake. Helpful boating safety resources can be found at parks.ny.gov.
  • Giving away quilts from the Cayuga Quilting Guild and throwing out the first pitch to start the Auburn Little League season.
