William Smith College junior defender Janey Sypeck has been named a Division III first-team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.

Sypeck was one of 57 student-athletes selected to the 2026 IWLCA Division III All-America teams.

The Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year adds the honor to an already decorated season that also included first-team All-Empire Region and All-Liberty League recognition. Last week, she was also named a second-team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine.

A standout defender, Sypeck started all 18 games this season and led the Herons with 46 caused turnovers and 43 ground balls. She ranked second on William Smith’s single-season caused turnover list while regularly drawing top offensive assignments.

Sypeck recorded at least one takeaway in 16 games this season, including a season-high five caused turnovers against Hamilton. She also forced four or more turnovers in seven games, including contests against nationally ranked Washington and Lee and Wesleyan.

She anchored a William Smith defense that ranked 19th nationally in scoring defense, allowing just seven goals per game. The Herons also finished first in the nation in clearing percentage.

A three-year starter, Sypeck has appeared in 60 career games and currently ranks fourth on the program’s all-time caused turnovers list with 99.

William Smith finished the season with a 17-3 record, winning the Liberty League championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th straight year.
