The Buffalo Sabres opened their playoff run in dramatic fashion Sunday, scoring all four of their goals in the third period to beat the Boston Bruins 4-3. Buffalo entered the final frame trailing and found a way, which is a reasonable thing to get excited about given the Sabres’ 50-23-9 regular season. The series opener belongs to them.
The Rochester Knighthawks fell to the Georgia Swarm 17-12, dropping to 6-12 on the NLL season. The Swarm, at 12-6, are one of the better teams in the league and showed it Sunday. Meanwhile, the Rochester Red Wings had a better afternoon, knocking off the Buffalo Bisons 6-4 in AAA action to give the region a split of sorts between its two pro franchises.
Down in MLB, the Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 7-0 win. Aaron Judge and Paul Rice hit early home runs off Carlos Ragans, and New York’s pitching did the rest. The Royals, now 7-15, are in a rough stretch. The Yankees improve to 13-9 and are quietly putting together a decent April.
