A wrong-way driver collided with an ambulance Saturday night on an exit ramp of the New York State Thruway, sending three people to the hospital, according to New York State Police.

The crash happened at approximately 9 p.m. on the eastbound Exit 6 off-ramp of Interstate 90.

State Police said a Colonie Ambulance was traveling eastbound on the off-ramp with a patient onboard and was en route to Albany Medical Center when it was struck by a vehicle traveling the wrong way.

The ambulance driver and the onboard paramedic suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment and evaluation.

Authorities said the patient being transported in the ambulance was not injured in the collision. A second ambulance responded to the scene and transported the patient to Albany Medical Center for treatment related to the original medical emergency.

The wrong-way driver suffered significant but non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Albany Medical Center.

State Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests had been made as of Sunday.
