With the Great New York State Fair just over a week away, work is underway to construct this year’s butter sculpture.
Sculptors Jim Victor and Marie Pelton began work over the weekend and will spend 11 days total crafting the sculpture which consists of over 800 lbs of butter. The butter comes O-AT-KA Milk Products in Batavia.
“Every year, the iconic butter sculpture puts the spotlight on our state’s amazing dairy industry,” says John Chrisman, CEO American Dairy Association North East. “This work of art pays tribute to the hardworking dairy farmers of New York who work every single day to responsibly produce nutrient-rich milk, an excellent source of vitamins and minerals.”
The 56th annual butter sculpture will be unveiled by the American Dairy Association on their Facebook page on Tuesday, August 20.
This year’s fair runs from August 21 through September 2. After the fair, the sculpture will be recycled by Noblehurst Farms in Pavilion. Noblehurst turns over 500 tons of food waste into enough energy each month to power the farm and more than 300 local homes.
