WNY State Trooper Acquitted of Manslaughter

SHARE NOW

A New York State trooper who was on trial for manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of a man from North East, Pennsylvania has been acquitted.

On Wednesday, a judge in Erie County found Anthony Nigro IV not guilty of both counts, which resulted from a February 2022 high-speed chase that began on I-90 in the Town of Brant and ended in downtown Buffalo. Nigro fired his service weapon in the direction of 38-year-old James Huber during an interaction with him, and Huber was later pronounced dead.

Nigro was indicted last June after an investigation conducted by Attorney General Letitia James’ Office.

In a statement, the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association called the judge’s verdict “a victory for law enforcement professionals,” saying that “Trooper Nigro’s actions were in accordance with his training and the law, and he was justified in his use of force.”
