A Batavia man was sentenced for his role in the death last March of a Genesee County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant at Batavia Downs.
33-year-old Michael Elmore pleaded guilty one month ago to an aggravated manslaughter charge in connection with the death of Thomas Sanfratello. He was sentenced on Tuesday to 20 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.
Elmore, and Lindsay Wilcox, both of Batavia, were kicked out of the casino early May 19th for fighting and had been escorted out by Sgt. Sanfratello along with security. Elmore returned a short time later with what was classified as a thick piece of jewelry or necklace and used it to beat Sgt. Sanfratello in the head with. He was also accused of putting Sanfratello into a chokehold resulting in the Sgt. losing consciousness.
