UPDATE (9/18 3 p.m.):

It will cost you a little more to drive along the New York State Thruway starting in 2024. The Thruway Authority’s Board of Directors on Monday approved the first toll hike in 14 years.  Beginning in January, E-Z Pass users will see an increase of five percent in their tolls, with a second five percent increase set to go into effect in January of 2027. Non E-Z Pass customers will see their tolls increase to 8.6 cents per mile by 2027.  According to the state, the increases are designed to help the Thruway Authority meet its future capital and infrastructure needs.

We will find out today if it will cost you more to travel on the New York State Thruway starting in January.

The Thruway Authority’s board of directors is meeting this afternoon to consider a proposal that would see E-Z Pass toll rates increase by 5 percent. Drivers who are without an E-ZPass currently pay 15 percent more for tolls and would pay 75 percent more under the proposal.

The Authority says additional revenues are necessary to meet future capital needs, fund outstanding debt and continue to provide reliable service to its users.
