Construction will soon begin on a project to expand the ‘Crow’s Nest’ at Niagara Falls State Park.
The project will include constructing a new set of stairs and an overlook connecting the existing ‘Crow’s Nest,’ a set of stairs that allows visitrrs to climb hallfway up the side of the falls, to Prospect Point to provide new close-up views of the falls.
“Niagara Falls State Park is the perfect place to get outdoors, get offline, and enjoy nature,” Governor Hochul said. “This project will provide another opportunity for New Yorkers to put their phones down and take advantage of all the beautiful natural resources that our state has to offer.”
Currently, visitors are required to go back down the into the gorge and use the Maid of the Mist elevators to return to the upper levels. With these additional stairs, it’s hoped that pedestrian congestion will be eased during peak season. The plan is for the stairs to operate in a one-way direction from the lower gorge during the busy season and switch to a two-way access during the off season.
Funding for the $9 million peoject comes from State Parks capital funding, The Maid of the Mist Corporation, the Niagara River Greenway, and the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
According to the governor’s office, work will begin in early September and be completed for the 2026 season.
