Unemployment Rates Drop Across FLX

Unemployment rates are declining across the Finger Lakes.

According to preliminary data from the New York State Department of Labor looking at April’s unemployment numbers, the rate is down when compared to the same time last year.

  • Cayuga County: 3.3 to 2.6%. 0.7% decrease.
  • Onondaga 3.1 to 2.5%. 0.6% decrease.
  • Ontario 2.8 to 2.4%. 0.4% decrease
  • Monroe 3.1 to 2.5%. 0.6% decrease
  • Schuyler 3.7 to 3.2%. 0.5% decrease
  • Seneca 3.0 to 2.5%. 0.5% decrease
  • Steuben 3.4 to 3.1%. 0.3% decrease
  • Tompkins 2.3 to 2.0%. 0.3% decrease
  • Wayne  3.0 to 2.5%. 0.5% decrease
  • Yates 2.7 to 2.2%. 0.5% decrease

When looking at the entire state, New York’s unemployment rate declined by 0.4% from April 2022 to April 2023, going from 4.1 to 3.7%.

Nationwide unemployment declined by 0.2% during the same time period.

New York and Schoharie Counties were the only two counties in the state to see an increase in unemployment.
