Two State Trooper vehicles were struck by a drunk driver over the weekend.
According to police, the incident happened around midnight on Saturday on the Southern State Parkway in Suffolk County.
Troopers were investigating an unrelated drunk driving incident where a man struck a Department of Transportation light tower in a work zone.
While troopers were in their vehicles, one was hit by 73-year-old Jaikaran Ramrookum of Smithtown. The force pushed the one patrol vehicle into the other.
All parties were taken to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
Ranrookum was charged with Driving Under the Influence.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
