Two Illegal Cannabis Operations Padlocked After State Investigation

The New York State Office of Cannabis Management says it has seized more than $2 million worth of illegal cannabis products during recent enforcement actions across the state.

Investigators with the agency’s Enforcement and Investigations Division executed a court-issued access order on January 30 at a storefront at 645 Rogers Avenue in Brooklyn following complaints from neighbors about illegal cannabis sales. Officials say the investigation uncovered illicit activity and led to the seizure of more than 220 pounds of cannabis flower, along with edibles, concentrates, and pre-rolls, with an estimated street value of more than $1.4 million.

Authorities noted the shop was operating next to a childcare center. The location was issued a Notice of Violation and padlocked.

Governor Kathy Hochul said the state will continue cracking down on unlicensed cannabis stores, particularly those operating near children or outside state regulations. Legal dispensaries are required to follow strict rules, including age verification and limits on product displays visible to minors.

In a separate case, investigators inspected an illegal cannabis operation on February 10 in Rhinebeck. Officials say the site was being used to grow, process, store, and sell illicit products. Agents seized 105 pounds of cannabis flower, 73 pounds of edibles, and five pounds of concentrates, valued at more than $900,000. That location was also ordered sealed and padlocked.

OCM officials say the actions are part of an ongoing effort to protect communities and support licensed businesses operating legally.

So far in 2026, the agency says it has closed 22 illegal cannabis shops, contributing to a total of 557 storefronts shut down statewide. Residents can report suspected illegal cannabis activity through the state’s Office of Cannabis Management.
