Two students from Horseheads High School have been arrested following an investigation into the creation and distribution of an explicit video involving another student, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspects, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old, both residents of Horseheads, have been charged with Promoting an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, a Class D felony, and Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, a Class E felony, under New York State law.
The investigation began on June 6, when the school’s Special Patrol Officer reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office. According to authorities, a student was unknowingly recorded in a school bathroom by other students. The video was reportedly shared among students both in person and through the social media app Snapchat.
After reviewing the evidence, the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Division determined that the two juveniles were responsible for recording and distributing the video. Both were taken into custody and later released with appearance tickets for Chemung County Family Court.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released the identities of the individuals involved due to their ages and the nature of the case. The investigation is ongoing.
