On Sunday, New York State Police and a Chemung County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a residence in Chemung County for a reported active domestic incident.
Upon arrival at approximately 2:58 p.m., a trooper found a female victim being threatened in her living room by Nathan Novakowski, 18, of Chemung, who was wielding a pair of scissors. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, Novakowski became increasingly agitated and attempted to stab the victim.
To prevent imminent harm, the trooper discharged his firearm, fatally striking Novakowski. The female victim sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by Greater Valley Ambulance.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the New York State Attorney General’s Office are continuing the investigation in accordance with state law.
