An armed standoff with State Police shut down all lanes of the New York State Thruway between the Victor and Henrietta exits early this morning.
Around 3 a.m., Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle off the road on I-90 westbound near mile marker 358 in the town of Pittsford, Monroe County. They located a 2019 Ford Mustang matching the description in the eastbound lane.
The driver, identified as 31-year-old Anthony Caceres of Rochester, refused to roll down his window or provide ID and became verbally combative. When Troopers attempted to re-engage him, one observed what appeared to be the barrel of a firearm pressed against the driver’s side window and pointed at him.
Troopers took cover and called for backup. After a brief standoff, Caceres was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported.
Caceres was processed at SP Rochester and charged with:
-
Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree (Class D Felony)
-
Menacing a Police Officer or Peace Officer (Class D Felony)
-
Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
This investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
