A New York State Thruway Authority Maintenance worker is dead after being struck by a car on Interstate 90 in Western New York Monday.
The accident happened just before 8 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-90 just before exit 58 in the town of Hanover. A preliminary investigation determined the car struck the worker while he was outside of a Thruway Authority vehicle.
Governor Kathy Hochul released a statement regarding the incident:
“We are heartbroken over the devastating death of a dedicated public servant, and my prayers go out to his family, friends and fellow co-workers during this difficult time. Roadside workers risk their lives every day to ensure the safety of all drivers on the road and they deserve our utmost attention at all times. This is the second fatality involving a Thruway maintenance worker this year and it is a serious reminder to slow down, safely move over and be alert for all vehicles stopped on the side of the road.”
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene and will release more information at a later time.
