Three correction officers charged in connection with the fatal beating of an inmate at Marcy Correctional Facility have been granted additional time to consider plea deals.
Nicolas Kieffer, Nicholas Anzalone, and Nicholas Gentile appeared separately in court Tuesday. Each was expected to announce whether they would accept plea offers made by special prosecutor Bill Fitzpatrick, the Onondaga County District Attorney.
However, over the prosecution’s objections, Judge Robert Bauer approved their requests for more time. The judge gave them an additional two weeks, aligning their deadlines with those of other officers charged in the case.
The terms of the plea deals remain confidential, though such agreements often involve reduced prison sentences in exchange for a guilty plea before trial.
The three officers are among ten accused in the December death of inmate Robert Brooks. Video from body-worn cameras reportedly captured the group assaulting Brooks while in custody.
