The Syracuse Police Department has arrested 43-year-old David Huff in connection with a tragic double homicide that occurred late Monday night.
Authorities responded to reports of a shooting with injuries at 128 Roney Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of a woman and a child, both fatally wounded.
The Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office later identified the victims as Huff’s 32-year-old girlfriend, Yeraldith Tschudy of Rochester, and his 11-year-old son, Jeremiah Huff. The North Syracuse Central School District confirmed that Jeremiah was a sixth-grade student at Gillette Road Middle School.
Law enforcement launched an extensive search for Huff, spanning multiple locations from the Roney Road residence to another home in North Syracuse. The operation continued overnight and into the morning, with police utilizing a helicopter during their efforts. A crucial tip from a citizen ultimately led to Huff’s arrest around 9:30 a.m. in the town of Onondaga.
Huff now faces multiple charges, including one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and a charge of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crime. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
